Went to a screening of the new Deadmau5 concert DVD a few weeks back. I didn’t like it for several reasons, but what I noticed is well-illustrated here. Almost everyone in the audience —and they were all 20ish years old— was watching the show through the lens of a camera/phone. Technology now allows to us capture all of our experiences for the purpose of feeding our social media applications, and I worry (about a lot of things) that this tendency to compulsively document our lives makes us less present to our lives, to what we are actually experiencing in any given moment. We live through a media filter.
I’m probably just old.
