It’s a rainy Monday morning in Southern California, which is great news as on Friday afternoon it was raining ash at my house from the fire in Malibu and I had to close the windows because my place was filling up with smoke.

Additional great news this morning is that Hollywood Forever just announced that The National is playing there on August 11. Tickets go on sale here, this Friday. They’re 47 bucks, which seems a bit steep to me, but I’ve never see The National live before. Maybe it’s totally worth it.

In any case, let’s all take three minutes and fifty five seconds to remember how incredible “Mr. November” is.

Leo smiles like that and all of the sudden I’m 13 years old again, leaving the movie theater in Ashwaubenon, WI after seeing William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet for the first time thinking, “What is this overwhelming feeling I’m feeling?”

(It was desire).

NPR is streaming the The Great Gatsby soundtrack right now, and it’s major. Goosebumps for Andre 3000’s and Beyonce’s ominous synthed out siren call cover of Back to Black. (Yeah, you read that right. I know, holy shit). Other highlights: Jay Z’s 100 Bill and Jack White’s cover of U2’s Love is Blindness. This thing has also got The xx, Florence and the Machine, Sia, Gotye, Nero, and Lana del Rey. All in all, quite possibly one of the most epic movie soundtracks since the soundtrack to Romeo + Juliet, which I purchased at the Sam Goody in the mall immediately after the movie. Pretty sure it was the first time I heard Radiohead. And Garbage. And Lovefool by The Cardigans. I still play that damn album.

Thanks to Lo for bringing this NPR stream to my attention. She was totally with me in the movie theater in Ashwaubenon that day. We liked (like!) this song a lot.

WinWin is from New York, btw, and their video for Landloper is a digital era new classic. So check it.

The Postal Service turned in a perfect performance at Coachella on Saturday night. (I say more about that here). I danced my ass off during “Clark Gable.” And maybe cried a little. (The video quality above isn’t ideal, but bear with it).

The fucking excellent followup news is that this morning, the Postal Service tacked on two Los Angeles dates to their current world tour. They’ll play the Greek on July 23 and 24th. The Divine Fits will open the second show. Tickets aren’t on sale yet, but they will be soon, here. I’ll see you there. (I’ll be the one dancing and crying happy tears).

Hit the tail end of the Third Man Records brunch this morning at the Ace. I had a large-scale Bloody Mary, a donut and many tater tots before buying a limited edition vinyl pressing of Elephant at Third Man’s rolling record shop. Geeking out pretty hard about that right now.

Went to tres swanky Soho House fête yesterday at the Merv Griffin, (the guy who created Jeapordy, Wheel of Fortune and the Price is Right — so obviously this place was Gatsby-level posh) estate. The vibe was sexy, the food was top notch and the mojitos and ice cream sandwiches were free. So obviously I had two of each. (Oh and that’s Ms. Ali Miller and Ms. Andrea Domanick to my left in the shadowplay shot above).

Seriously, I’ve been living in there all weekend, flailing my limbs around to dubstep with thousands of shirtless bros, and it’s been the best fucking thing. DogBlood blew my GD mind (top three shows of the weekend easy), as did Wolfgang Gartner (during which I took this photo) and Knife Party last night. Really, Knife Party last night was some sort of life pinnacle.

Thrilled that this fresh to death Daft Punk disco-lite jam is finally out (today, officially although all the cool kids ((that’s not me)) first heard it on Wednesday), as in both sound and ethos, it is the ABSOLUTE PERFECT FUCKING SOUNDTRACK to the warm desert nights composing my current Coachella-based reality. I’d also be happy to listen to it while cruising through the French Riviera in, like, a 1976 Corvette Stingray. Just putting that out there.

Anyways, I’m finally going into the GD festival now. As Pharrell says here, we’re up all night to have fun/we’re up all night to get lucky. It’s really that simple. Peace out homies.
